Regular readers of The Windows Club, may be familiar with our several Windows freeware releases. The one common thing among them all was that they were all small portable apps which did not require an install. But this one is different! It does a lot, is a 10 MB download, and requires to be installed.

Ladies and Gentleman, we present to you our new release: Ultimate Windows Customizer ! While our Ultimate Windows Tweaker allows you to tweak various settings in Windows 7 and Windows Vista, this freeware will let you easily customize and change your Windows 7 (Windows 8 support to be added later) look – like changing the Start Button, Logon Screen, Thumbnails, Taskbar, Explorer look, Windows Media Player, etc.

Customize Windows 7

There are tons of applications available to customize your Windows installation, but the problem is that most are tweak specific. Hardly any offering multiple customization options. Ultimate Windows Customizer (UWC) is the first integrated freeware that offers you almost everything that can be customized in a Windows installation – well everything that matters, atleast!

Once you have downloaded Ultimate Windows Customizer, unzip the contents, open the folder and click on UWC Setup file to start the installation. The installation is simple and there are no boxes to check/uncheck. It is completely clean, and like all our other Windows freeware  does not include any of the hated toolbars or accompaniments. It is important to note that before running Ultimate Windows Customizer, if you have tweaked your operating system either manually or by using any other software, we recommend that you reverse the changes first. This is due to the fact that upon First Run, UWC will generate backups of the Current Files and Registry Settings, to allow the user to revert back to Default. Due to the wide nature of Customizations, this is the only option to revert back to Default.

Once you are sure about this, create a System Restore Point first. Then you can go ahead and start customizing to your heart’s content!

The customization tweaks in Ultimate Windows Customizer have been classified in to the following sections:

• Explorer
• Context Menus
• Libraries
• Logon Screen
• Start Orb
• Taskbar
• Miscellaneous
• Extra Settings
• Windows Media Player

Each section offers several customization tweaks relating to the function. It is really difficult to list the near-endless options being offered, but you can see all the UWC UI Screen-shots here. This will give you an idea. You can also watch a video on UWC here.

Once you have customized your Windows, you may click on the Close button to exit UWC. You will be asked to log off or restart your computer or Explorer as the case may be.

Click on the appropriate button to allow the action to complete and the effects to take place.

If you face any errors, they will be recorded in the Error Log for easy troubleshooting. You can view the error log by clicking on the View Error Log in the Extras tab.

Google search is a web search engine owned by Google Inc. and is the most-used search engine on the Web. Google receives several hundred million queries each day through its various services. Google’s search engine normally accepts queries as a simple text, and breaks up the user’s text into a sequence of search terms, which will usually be words that are to occur in the results. Google’s goal is to provide you with results that are clear and easy to read. The diagram below points out four features that are important to understanding the search results page but sometimes we can see some very shocking results… Have fun!

As you probably know the web is full of threats these days. They range from common email spam to malicious software spread by infected websites. As a result there are many blacklists around, with the goal of helping Internet service providers and companies identify the problematic websites and domains.

If you want to make sure your website is not listed on any of these blacklists you can use a tool called BlacklistAlert.org. Simply input your domain and the tool will check on more than 30 spam and malware blacklists.

This tool can also be useful in other situations, including:

• If you are considering to buy a registered domain name and want to make sure it’s clean.
• If you just moved to a new hosting company or to a new server and want to make sure your IP address is clean.
• If you are considering to exchange links or create a partnership with another website and want to make sure it’s clean.

Starting one’s own business involves several tedious tasks, employee management is one of which. To manage one’s employees and other human resources, their work hours, pays etc. give an employer hard time along with normal business operations. The IT industry once again comes to the rescue of the regular employer as tools now exist which can help employers perform the job of HR management easy. Not entirely a management tool for employers, but idlekeyboard is surely a thing to look out for. It is an online tool which plays ambient sounds and keyboard strokes in a continual loop making anyone look busy. It is a fun to try thing, especially in situations when you’re busy in work and also want to show people how busy you are. Recommended for all employers and employees!

Created for her MFA in design technology at San Francisco Art Institute, Jenny Odell's Satellite Collection offers a new perspective on the world using Google's omnipresent photography. Above, for example, is her assemblage of 125 swimming pools...

Noted on things magazine, The Satellite Collection is a series of six digital prints that Odell created by collaging cut-out imagery from Google Satellite. Each one is printed at 24"x24".

Google, or at least the new ways of looking at the world that Google engenders, is certainly fostering some interesting creative projects. Odell's series of prints contain something of the obsessive-compulsive, honing in on 'types' captured by the company's satellite imagery, while Michael Wolff's bizarre 'found' photography project, A Series of Unfortunate Events, has made fascinating use of Street View.

Twitter recently launched a full redesign to create a more interactive and engaging experience for users. In case you've been living in a cave for the past 4 years, Twitter is the ever-popular social networking and microblogging service which allows you to spew off meaningless drivel in 140 character increments (although, I must admit, it's been a powerful tool for growing Concept Feedback).

Now, instead of just a stream of updates, a new, extended right-side panel lets users view rich media, like photos and videos. The redesign also introduces a number of new features developed on cutting-edge technologies, like LABjs, jQuery, and Modernizr. You can read more about the redesign on Twitter’s website.

You can install anti-malware programs on your computer to keep your data safe from malware, but that still does not entirely secure your date. What if your there was physical damage to your computer? All your backups would be on your hard drive an in the case it got damaged, all data would be lost. The best solution to secure your data therefore is by storing a backup online.

icloud lets you do just that. icloud is a web service that provides its users with a virtual desktop. After creating an account and signing in to it, you virtual desktop loads up.

This desktop operates within your web browser and similar to the desktop screen of regular computers. You can store files in your icloud account and use the desktop interface to browse through files and use them.

As you can see from the image above, the files are organized and shown much like you are operating a physical computer. With the interface’s built-in apps you can play videos and music, view pictures, and browse files all within the web browser.

Emailing has also been the focus of icloud. The mail options can be accessed to add your email addresses other than the one assigned to your icloud.

A number of other email providers are supported; you can add your own as well.

Currently icloud offers 3GB storage to its free users and 100GB storage to users who pay the $40 fee. The web service is neat service to try and a great way to secure your important data.

The latest interactive project from Sony Music's Phil Clandillon and Steve Milbourne is an interactive music video that reacts live to the weather

Clandillon and Milbourne are the innovative duo responsible for AC/DC's ASCII art Excel music video as well as Editors' hack of Google Street View (which we coveredhere) and the Kasabian/Umbro live Guitar Hero video.

Their latest project is for young singer/songwriter Lissie's single Cuckoo. It's an interactive music video which runs on her site and is 'controlled' by live weather data. The singer and her band were shot against five different types of weather.

The viewer zooms in on a city or area of his/her choice and the backdrop changes according to the current local weather. If you move to a new location, the song continues but a 'TV weatherman type' provides a new forecast before the video changes to reflect the new location.

"You can click any location in the world and the app will grab the nearest live weather report," Clandillon explains. "There are thousands of places in the database and the weather for them is updated every hour. If a person clicks on a location we don't have weather for, we attempt to add it to the database if a weather report is available."

Why the weatherman? "The audio track is separate to the videos and we use the weatherman transition to give us time to sync up the two video streams and switch between them while keeping Lissie in sync."
